In Support of Prop 8

31 Oct 2008

This video shows supporters of Prop 8 lined up along the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s good to see people out in support of such an important proposition.

A friend of mine was out holding signs yesterday in support of Prop 8 with other members of her church, including an elderly woman. The majority of people driving past honked horns and waved in support of them, however, one woman drove past, circled around, pulled her car over, and tried to wrestle the sign away from the elderly woman. My friend’s friend held her ground, and told the woman to back off, which she eventually did, without being able to steal the sign.

I can hardly believe the level to which anti-Prop 8 people will stoop. Everything from vandalizing and stealing signs to vandalizing homes with spray paint – they must be desperate. It is so important to protect marriage and our children – please vote YES on Prop 8 if you are a California resident. Protect families, protect your children, protect marriage, and protect your right to vote.

Political Rant…

30 Oct 2008

This is a rant that is featured with Bob Parks on Black & Right of NMATV. He makes some good points!

With the economy and Wall Street’s woes, and stocks everywhere taking a dive, one would think companies would be trying to do what they can to get stock prices back up. For the most part, I’m sure companies are trying to do that. But I have to wonder what is going on with GE. I own a few shares of GE stock, and have watched it nosedive over the past few weeks. One year ago today, GE was at $40.33 a share, and today it closed at $17.83. Ouch.

I realize that the economy has slammed businesses hard – especially if they were involved with poor financial investments and the high risk mortgage industry. But companies need to start holding people responsible for the terrible decisions that were made. Jeff Immelt has not helped GE, and he needs to be held responsible (along with the board) for what’s happening to the company. Especially since Immelt said that things were fine, and obviously they are not.

I’m tired of seeing my portfolio go down. GE needs to act immediately so shareholders can feel that something is being done to help recoup losses.

GE – do something soon, before all of your shareholders lose faith in you.

I was just in San Jose visiting my family, and it was interesting to see how big an issue Prop 8 has become, for many reasons. Proposition 8 defines marriage as “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

The same Proposition (Prop 22) was passed in 2000 by California voters, however, four CA supreme court judges overturned this, legalizing marriage between anyone and anyone. (I’m sure PETA will soon push for animals to be given the right to marry, too…)

What is scary is that the will of the people was overturned by four judges, forcing a re-vote. These judges decided that they didn’t like what California voters decided, so they went ahead and made a decision that Californians had to deal with. That is why Prop 8 is so important in this coming November’s election. California voters need to protect their children, protect marriage, and protect their voting rights. For more information, check out the Protect Marriage website, and vote Yes on Prop 8 if you’re a voter in California.
