Why I Love Ruth’s Chris Steak House

March 23rd, 2007

Tonight my husband Preston and I decided to go to Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Salt Lake City for dinner. It was so easy to make reservations - they have a great online tool that will let you make reservations, and it will recommend an available time if the one you selected isn’t available.

We got to the restaurant early, and they seated us at our reserved time, 8:30. I was glad I made reservations because it was an hour and a half wait for those that didn’t have any.

We ordered our meals with no problem, but it seemed like our salads were taking a really long time. Our waiter came over to assure us that the salads were on the way. Just a minute later, our steaks came out, and we mentioned that we didn’t get our salads. They were very embarassed - they took the steaks back, and brought out the salads right away. When we were done, they brought out our steaks (new ones, not the ones they brought out originally, because they wouldn’t have been either cold or overdone at this point), which, of course, were perfectly done. Preston’s Filet Mignon seemed to be rather oversized, but he said it was good. The waiter came back to apologize profusely for the length of time it took to get our order, and he noticed that the steak was a rib-eye, rather than a filet. He immediately brought out a perfectly cooked filet mignon, and said Preston could have both, and he was welcome to take home what he couldn’t eat. He also said that dessert was on the house, and apologized again for the mix-ups. The manager also came over to apologize and make sure we were happy.

We were, of course, very happy. We understand that companies will make the occassional mistake, however, they should be given the chance to make things right. That is the sign of a great company - how they handle their mistakes. Every company will have problems they have to resolve, but if they do a good job, it will only reaffirm the loyalty of their customers. Despite the mistakes made tonight, all of the employees at Ruth’s Chris that we dealt with went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.

I was amazed at how well we were treated at Ruth’s Chris, and how they made sure we were happy with our meal, and with the service received. I guess I shouldn’t be amazed, after all, the reputation of RC is that of a very fine restaurant with excellent service. I just wish other restaurants would follow their lead. I will forever be loyal to this restaurant as a result of how we were treated. Great job, Ruth’s Chris!

As an afterthought, I don’t mean to make Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Salt Lake City sound disorganized. I’ve eaten at this particular restuarant before, and they did an excellent job. It was just a very busy night, and mistakes are bound to happen. I would recommend this to anyone living in or visiting the Salt Lake area.

Blue Iguana - Great Mexican Food in Salt Lake City

July 30th, 2006

On Saturday, my husband and I were in the mood for good Mexican food. We decided to go to downtown Salt Lake City to the Blue Iguana. It was delicious! The food is very inexpensive - I had Chile Verde, and my meal was about $10. My husband had the Mole Polleno, and it was also yummy, and ran about $10. Both meals included beans and rice, and it was way more than either of us could eat.

The Blue Iguana has a sister restaurant, the Red Iguana. I haven’t tried that one, but I hear it is just as delicious. The Red Iguana is actually the original restaurant, and the Blue Iguana was built after the success of Red.

The service was a bit slow at first, but once our orderes were taken, the food came out quickly. Also, they apologized for being so slow, and gave us free fried ice cream to make up for it. It was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend going there.

House of Kabob - Great Turkish/Persian/Greek Restaurant in Salt Lake City

March 1st, 2006

For anyone that lives in, or has visited Salt Lake City, they may notice the lack of ethnic restaurants in the area. I have been craving Persian food, and was very happy to find House of Kabob, located in downtown Salt Lake City. Now don’t get me wrong - I love Salt Lake City, and there are many great restaurants, but it just doesn’t compare to San Francisco.

House of Kabob is a very reasonably priced restaurant, with excellent food. I had the Juje Kabob, which is the grilled chicken and lemon rice. It was wonderful. My husband had the ground beef kabob with the Basmati Rice, wich was also fabulous. I think anything you try will be delicious. I was so happy to have Persian food. They also have Turkish and Greek food. I have not tried it yet, but I am sure it will be just as good as the Persian food.

It is located at:
268 South Main Street
Salt Lake City, UT

The Paris Bistro, Salt Lake City

February 4th, 2006

Today is my and my husband’s first wedding anniversary. The past year has flown by, and it’s been great. Everyone told us the first year is the hardest, which is great news for us, because it was wonderful. To celebrate, we ate at a restaurant called The Paris Bistro, located at 1500 South 1500 East Salt Lake City, Utah 84105.

The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I loved the setting, and the staff bent over backwards to accomodate us. We made reservations about 5 days in advance to be sure we had a good table, and they made sure we were taken care of.

We had the escargot for an appetizer, and it was very good. I’ve tried it at several different French restaurants located in both California and Utah, and it rated among the top. (Although, admittedly, I’ve never had it in France.)
For the soup/salad course, I tried the Pumpkin Soup, and it was good. Preston had the Paris Salad, and enjoyed it.
My husband tried the quail as his main course, and he loved it. I had the monkfish, which was a speciality of the evening, and it was fabulous.
For dessert, I had three different gelatos, and all were good. (Honey, Vanilla and Coconut) Preston tried the Bananas Foster, and seemed to enjoy it. I didn’t try it - I’m not a fan of bananas.
All of the food we tried was wonderful, and the service was excellent, but I have two small drawbacks. My husband felt it was rather loud in the restaurant, which I agree, and two of the items I ordered were out. (The Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Lemongrass Creme Brulee) I was rather disappointed that they were out - I had heard excellent reviews of each - but I was happy with everything else I tried. The price was very reasonable for an upscale restaurant - it was about $120, including gratuity, for the both of us, and that included all of the courses mentioned above.

I would definitely return to The Paris - the ambiance was wonderful, and it was a very romantic setting for our first anniversary.
