House of Kabob - Great Turkish/Persian/Greek Restaurant in Salt Lake City

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 |

For anyone that lives in, or has visited Salt Lake City, they may notice the lack of ethnic restaurants in the area. I have been craving Persian food, and was very happy to find House of Kabob, located in downtown Salt Lake City. Now don’t get me wrong - I love Salt Lake City, and there are many great restaurants, but it just doesn’t compare to San Francisco.

House of Kabob is a very reasonably priced restaurant, with excellent food. I had the Juje Kabob, which is the grilled chicken and lemon rice. It was wonderful. My husband had the ground beef kabob with the Basmati Rice, wich was also fabulous. I think anything you try will be delicious. I was so happy to have Persian food. They also have Turkish and Greek food. I have not tried it yet, but I am sure it will be just as good as the Persian food.

It is located at:
268 South Main Street
Salt Lake City, UT

Not a lot of Ethnic restaurants in Salt Lake? What Salt Lake did you visit. No of course it doesn’t compare to San Francisco - but our metropolitan areas is not even half the size of the bay area. For being an inland city with a population of 200,000 Salt Lake City is flourishing with a wide variety of restaurants.

I’m glad to hear that you are happy with the restaurants located in Salt Lake. I think you’re missing my point, however. If you read my post, I stated that Salt Lake does, indeed, have some good restaurants, but I simply wish there were more ethnic ones to choose from. My husband and I were searching for a good Afghan restaurant, and could not find a single one!

Perhaps the lack of ethnic restaurants stems from the lack of diversity among the people in Utah. There is more demand for Chili’s and Macaroni Grill than for authentic Afghan or Mediterranean cuisine. This is not a slam on the people of Utah. Having lived most of my life in the Bay Area, I simply crave something new and fresh and different.

Next time you’re in San Francisco, take a look around. Try Boulevard. Or Mezes. Or Avenue G. You’ll see what I mean by fabulous restaurants.
