First of all, I have to say I think calling this debate “Smackdown” is completely lame. I don’t really know why those in charge came up with this title – comparing political debates with wrestling is kind of silly.

If it is in reference to how Hannity smacked down Rocky Anderson, then yes, it was a smackdown. I hate to use that term, though, because it is so dumb. The debate was interesting, however. I watched it on TV, and I thought it was interesting seeing how Hannity had a hart time speaking, and the moderator had to yell at the audience a few times asking them to “shut up.” Hannity’s response was simply that he felt it was typical of liberals to preach about free speech, but only allow it when people agree with their viewpoints.

The debate was interesting to watch, and both sides made their points. I think Hannity outspoke Rocky Anderson, and proved his point much better, asking “Ross” as he called him (Anderson’s given name) to hold not only President Bush responsible for the war (if he insisted on doing so), but also John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, and all the other democrats that supported it. Anderson didn’t have much to say – he fumbled over his words many times, and had to change the subject when he couldn’t back up his claims.

The low point of the debate, however, was when Sean Hannity asked the family of a fallen Utah Marine to stand up and be recognized. Some idiot woman yelled out to them that their son “didn’t have to die.” I think that is one of the cruelest things she could have said to a family that supported their country and their son. That attitude is what is wrong about many people – none of the lives of the soldiers and Marines that have fallen have been wasted. It has all been to improve and help the Iraqi people, and make our country safer. They get to vote! The women no longer fear rape and murder by Saddam Hussein’s sons. That is not dying in vain – that is dying so that others can realize that life can be better than what Hussein provided for them.

I think Rocky Anderson should not publicly debate Sean Hannity, a talk show host that debates people for a living. Anderson should go back to doing what he’s paid to do – be mayor of Salt Lake City. He needs to stop his witch hunt – I smell McCarthyism here…and stop wasting taxpayer dollars trying to chase down this dream of his – of being a real person in politics instead of the clown he really is.

    No offense taken.

Ugh… no offense… but I don’t like Hannity, Anderson, or any other partisan for that matter. I don’t believe that was even a real “debate.”

I guess I should clarify. I didn’t mean the low point was the fact that Sean Hannity wanted to recognize the family of the fallen Marine. I think the family deserves to be recognized for their sacrifice. I think it was low for the woman to yell what she did.

I like how politicians usually avoid the fact that our ARMY is entirely voluntary at this point. A document is signed at the beginning of everyone joining, that wars them of the possibility of going to war and dying for their country.

I agree, it was extremely wrong for the family to be called out, let alone have that woman yell that their son didn’t have to die, and make them feel like their sons service was a waste.
