Why Are the Dixie Chicks Talking?!
Sunday, May 21st, 2006 |
The Dixie Chicks had a huge backlash from their 2003 comments about President Bush (when lead singer Natalie Maines stated to a London audience, “Just so you know, we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas”). Many people boycotted their music as a means of protesting their stupid comments. (I, for one, never thought they were very talented, and listening to the way they disrespect their country and President, am embarassed they come from the United States.) It wasn’t hard for me to boycott them.
Natalie Maines has recently taken back her pathetic half-hearted apology to President Bush, saying he doesn’t deserve any respect. She’s entitled to her opinion, just like me. I think she and her bandmates are morons. What is amusing to me about this whole incident, is the fact that they realize they are no longer popular or even liked by many people. Maines’ bandmate Martie Maguire said, “I’d rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don’t want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do.”
Yeah. That makes sense. Being limited by a large fan base? And the money that a large fan base brings in? They seem pretty limited now because they have no income. Who listens to them anymore, anyway? I haven’t heard much on the country radio stations - Country music is a pretty conservative group, and when they anger their entire fan base, they won’t do too well.
I’m sure they’re trying to stir up controversy to get their names back in the news, hoping they might sell a few records. I have to give them some credit…they have gotten the band’s name out there - but it’s not going to sell many records to a conservative Country music base. They need a new publicist. That, or a muzzle.

I totally agree…thanks for voicing your opinion. I hope you are doing well, I miss you.
Dixie Chicks are so awesome. I really appreciate their intelligent chord progressions and progressive styling. I really think they’re going places.
[...] I wrote previously about them when they made their asinine statement about President Bush, and they have not done much to win any fans other than the liberal judges on the Grammy awards music panel. They don’t get radio time on country music stations because, frankly, everyone that listens to those is sick of them and their attitude. If they would just go away, it would be great. They would not be missed. [...]
